Summary:
Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade—the dangerous device Jasper stole from him…for the life of the girl Jasper loves.

One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. And tightens.

From the rough streets of lower Manhattan to elegant Fifth Avenue, the motley crew of teens with supernatural abilities is on Jasper's elusive trail. And they're about to discover how far they'll go for friendship.

More than ever, Finley Jayne will rely on powerful English duke Griffin King to balance her dark magic with her good side. Yet Griffin is at war with himself over his secret attraction to Finley…and will risk his life and reputation to save her. Sam, more machine than man, finds his moody heart tested by Irish lass Emily—whose own special abilities are no match for the darkness she discovers on the streets.

Now, to help those she's come to care for so deeply, Finley Jayne must infiltrate a criminal gang. Only problem is, she might like the dark side a little too much….

My Thoughts:
The Girl in the Clockwork Collar is an exciting continuation of the Steampunk Chronicles, delivering fast-paced action sequences and compelling intrigue! While romance is certainly an aspect to be found in the novel, I also really loved the emphasis on friendship and loyalty. If any of the characters were in a precarious position, you just knew help would soon be on its way.

After Jasper was suddenly accused of murder and taken away by bounty hunters at the end of The Girl in the Steel Corset, the story continues right where events left off. Desperate to save their friend, Griffin, Finley, Sam and Emily head to New York City, only to learn the situation is more dire than they could have ever imagined. Jasper has been captured by a dangerous man named Dalton, leader of a gang he used to be part of, who wants a device back which he claims Jasper stole. And until Jasper gives the device back, the clockwork collar around the neck of a girl from his past whom he stills loves, Mei, will only tighten.

Griffin is as sweet and charming as ever, extremely protective of his friends and especially warm towards Finley. His feelings for her may be considered unbecoming for someone of his stature among the English aristocracy, yet he can't help falling for the beautiful Finley the more time he spends around her. Just like in The Girl in the Steel Corset, Finley is brave, courageous and unafraid to punch someone in the face to get the job done, but she can also be reckless and impulsive in this novel too. Finley's been on her own for so long that she forgets she has friends who deeply care and worry about her safety now.

Kady Cross held nothing back in the The Girl in the Clockwork Collar. The novel was a thrilling, adventurous tale which leaped off the pages and left me holding my breath in utter suspense. I had my suspicions about the motives of certain characters, and I couldn't wait to see if I would be proved right. I'm really excited to see what will happen next in The Girl with the Iron Touch

  1. I love this series! It's just a lot of fun. And I also appreciated that romance didn't dominate the story like most YA novels
